Getting used to my new life

Time has sped up and as my work life takes place in front of a PC, I tend to ignore my own after work.
Good news first: I'm getting used to my work.
Bad news last: I managed to make a small error with really big effects just yesterday. As it might affect clients I'm really upset about this. Fortunately my boss supports me and doesn't seem to mind too much.  (He brought cake for everyone today.)

Still, I'm lonely and my telephone bill is rising and rising...

I'll try to post more. Hope you are well and healthy and enjoying early spring.
Greetings.

Tolerance

To the guy who thinks he is so funny,

You are totally getting on my nerves. You're the sort of guy who will make fun of other people and what they're doing, what they've learnt and expect them to find it funny, too. (That includes me.)
Then, when we don't oblige, you will tell us that we're not tolerant, not funny and way too serious.

Well, I'm really sorry. But for border-crossing of your kind I'm too precious to myself. I've spent way too many years enduring guys like you just to be accepted. And the sad truth: I never was!

So, I've decided some years ago to be the way I am. If I don't wanna laugh - I'm not laughing.

And I don't live to please men like you.

I just live to please me and to feel good with myself. If I can do that, I'll be able to be happy and funny with my friends and loved ones. And that is what counts. Not what you think I should or shouldn't do.

Thought you oughta know.

Where movies are wrong...

I don't mean the Happy Ending. I really love a Happy Ending. The hero and heroine overcame all obstacles and finally found each other. They can finally seal their bound of happiness (in whatever way and be it just a kiss).
But then...the movie is over and we never find out how it actually worked afterwards.
Movies tell us that change is good and new beginnings are happy and favorable circumstances indeed.

Well, yes, they are. But still, the movie shouldn't end there. It should show that life afterwards is also hard. Maybe even harder in the beginning. Changing who you are and starting new somewhere else is a big enterprise for sure.

What I'm living for...

Everyone everywhere around the world knows the feeling. The nagging sensation of restlessness that circles around you like a hungry dragon (sorry for this very bad metaphor...) and screams at you
"Why are you doing this?? What purpose does your life have?"

I felt quite good as an academic but couldn't cope too well with all the time management I had to do myself. So I ended up writing most of my graduation thesis and the little I wrote for my PhD late at night. Now I have to be at work till 8 am and may leave at 4 pm (but lately I end up staying till 5 or even 6 pm). I confess that I wasn't sure if I even wanted something like this. Working in a bureau. Doing paperwork. Writing mostly things I don't need to write (only copy).

I might not want to do this forever. But I like that I'm doing things that are needed. That my boss says "Thank you" and "Well done" when my work is okay. That my colleagues are nice and helpful.

And that I see things I haven't seen before.

Because I realized today:

I'm living to see things I've never seen before.

That's it. And it is enough.

Greetings to you!

Two hours

When I was unemployed, two hours could mean anything. But mostly they meant nothing to me and went about their business without bothering me. Two hours in which I slept, decided to go out to buy something bad to eat, read some blogs, maybe wrote a job application if I felt like it, wrote in this blog or tried to write a novel. Or I just watched a whole batch of Japanese or Korean Drama.
Believe me when I say I was so sick of it!
Yes, one can get sick of having too much spare time at your hands.

Now, the opposite is quite true: Two hours free time are very, very precious.
While I'm being trained more and more in doing my job (which is actually quite simple in some ways and complicated in others), I get to do more and more stuff at work. I haven't managed to do some major errors yet, but the day will surely come. Even though I can already predict that one day I'll find that job rather boring, I'm very happy at the moment as my colleagues are nice and my bosses are splendid. The atmosphere at my working place is very down to earth and most people are smiling. If there is - by chance - nothing to smile about they'll go on to joke about it.

Anyway, the previous workdays have gone by so quickly. I can't really believe it. Soon, I'll get my first wage! Woohooo!

Two hours now have a completely different meaning to me.

This is my second blog year. Hope you are in for the ride.

Greetings!

P.S. I tried to take a picture of the alps. I try to catch a glimpse of them every morning at dawn and every evening in the twilight, when I'm taking the bus to and from work. It's really a breathtaking sight and the alps are very near. Actually, many of my colleagues are going skiing or snowboarding on the weekends. I might need to learn skiing after all....(again)....
